Even though most establishments accept the U.S. dollars and major credit cards, it is still wise to take a few Barbados dollars handy.

The island has a pretty good road network and getting public transport is not an issue at all. Bus service is frequent and inexpensive. Public mini vans, with “ZR” on their license plates, are your other land transportation option. However, these are not recommended for those who do not want rough-driving. Barbados taxis do not employ the typical metering system. Government regulates the fares, so it is highly-advisable to ask a fare list in the Barbados tourism office. If you want to drive around yourself, there is a wide variety of cars for hire on the island. However, you need to obtain a driving permit aside from the driver’s license from your country. You can get this from car rental companies, at the airport, or at the Ministry of Transport. You will only be charged a $10 BDS for registration fee.
